When is the best time to go on safari in Uganda and Rwanda?
The drier months from June to September and December to February are the most popular for gorilla trekking and game drives. Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking run all year, and the wetter months are quieter, greener and often better value.
How much is a gorilla trekking permit?
In 2026 a gorilla trekking permit costs USD $800 in Uganda and USD $1,500 in Rwanda for foreign non-residents. We secure permits as part of every itinerary, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority has announced revised rates from 1 January 2027.
Should I choose Uganda or Rwanda for gorilla trekking?
Uganda offers lower permit prices, more gorilla families and the chance to add chimpanzees, tree-climbing lions and classic game drives. Rwanda is compact and quick to reach from Kigali, ideal for a short trip. Many travellers combine both.
How fit do I need to be for gorilla trekking?
A reasonable level of fitness is enough. Treks can take from one to several hours on steep, muddy forest trails, and porters are available to carry your bag and help on the climbs. Trekkers must be at least 15 years old.
Can you tailor a safari to my dates and budget?

Can I add Kenya or Tanzania to a Uganda or Rwanda safari?
Yes. Uganda and Rwanda are our home, and we also arrange Kenya and Tanzania extensions, such as the Masai Mara, the Serengeti or a Zanzibar beach finish, after your gorilla trek.
